The current document was created with the objective of providing a guide to establish and structure agricultural and livestock land uses at a national level. It's understood that land use aims to produce goods and services for the population, and its dynamics serve as an indicator of changes in land cover. For the creation of this legend, the base input was established using Land Cover maps produced by various public and private institutions.
This document integrates the results of the formulation of the Family Cocoa Farming Landscape Letter of the Acacireño Piedmont, which was carried out within the framework of the Pilot Project "Agricultural Landscape Letter, in two municipalities of the Orinoquía" developed between October 2020 and December 2021, in partnership between the Municipal Administration of Acacías (Meta), the Rural Agricultural Planning Unit (UPRA), and the Orinoco Biocarbon Project, Sustainable Low Carbon Landscapes.
The land management policy for agricultural uses (Gestua), understood as a “set of strategies, instruments and planned actions, both sectoral and territorial and intersectoral management, aimed at achieving efficient agricultural uses both in the continental and maritime-coastal territory” (Massiris, 2015), arises as a need that, from a regulatory and institutional perspective, was specified in 2011, regarding the creation of the Rural Land Planning, Land Adaptation and Agricultural Uses Unit (UPRA according to its acronym in Spanish).
This manual provides guidance and clarifies technical aspects, considering recommendations from experts and producer organizations, among others, for the development of pre-investment in small-scale irrigation projects. It encompasses identification, feasibility, and design phases.
This "Manual of basic technical standards for land adaptation projects" incorporates current technical regulations, current institutional framework, concepts of efficient use of resources, especially water and soil, and a comprehensive concept of land adaptation. It ensures a detailed and progressive evaluation of conditions and problems in the area, and the definition of works, programs and activities required for the project´s execution and its final success.
This guide is an instrument through which basic guidelines are given to incorporate aspects of the dynamics of the multidimensional market (territorial, national and world) into Agricultural Land-use Planning.
