Duitama, Boyacá (@UpraColombia, @Claudialli76, @alexander_rodr_). With over 600 attendees from different regions of the country, including peasants, producers, beneficiaries, and users of irrigation districts nationwide, the National Land Adjustment Congress took place in Duitama (Boyacá) between April 25th and 27th, 2024.

"Colombia has 18.4 million hectares susceptible to land adjustment, but only 1.1 million hectares (6%) have that service. In this regard, our commitment as the Government of Change to peasants is to increase the area suitable for planned irrigation, strengthen the social, economic, and financial sustainability of agricultural projects associated with irrigation investment, optimize resource use, and promote efficient use of water and soil. That was our central message delivered in the spaces we participated in during the academic agenda of the Congress," said Alexander Rodríguez Romero, technical director of Efficient Soil Use and Land Adjustment at UPRA.

During the Integral Management of Land Adjustment Districts panel, UPRA expert Juan Pablo Macías explained, "It is very important to consider 4 axes: environmental sustainability, socioeconomic development, community participation, and monitoring and evaluation, which are fundamental parts of the guidelines collected by UPRA in the Basic Technical Standards Manual for the Implementation of Land Adjustment Projects, whose editorial launch took place at this Congress."

On his part, Daniel Chavarro Rodríguez, UPRA expert, stated, "We had the opportunity to present and discuss the benefits and opportunities for regions in terms of land adjustment districts, efficient use of water and soil, productive projects, Food Production Protection Areas (APPA), public-private partnerships for DAT investment financing, territorial planning, and the uses of the Information System for Rural Agricultural Planning, SIPRA (https://sipra.upra.gov.co/)"

«It is very important to have allies like Federriego, the Boyacá Governor's Office, the Rural Development Agency, UPRA, Banco Agrario, Duitama Chamber of Commerce, beneficiaries and representatives of different irrigation districts nationwide, academia, and the private sector, who gathered at the Congress over these 3 days to seek the progress of communities through sustainable development of territories, through programs and projects of restoration, recovery, conservation, protection, planning, and use of natural resources,», concluded Alexandra Forero Quiñones, president of the Suna Foundation.
