Inhabited by more than 800 families sharing an area of nearly 22,000 hectares along the Putumayo River and its tributaries Toayá, Cuembí, Lorenzó, La Piña, Chufiyá, and Mansoyá.
Peasant men and women from 25 villages who have worked for years to make agrarian reform a reality, ending the inequitable land distribution and enabling them to lead productive and sustainable agricultural projects for their communities.
On her part, Jani Silva, leader of ADISPA, stated: "It is the first time that the national government through the Ministry of Agriculture, UPRA, Agrosavia, and ICA have a presence in our ZRC territory and are building, with us, a selection of the most important products for our community and helping us plan. We are organized peasants who believe in our territory as a source of life and development."
Similarly, Fidel Londoño, leader of the Productive Alternatives Team at UPRA, affirmed: "With this work, from the Bajo Cuembí village, we seek, through a process of knowledge and collective construction, to prioritize the agricultural products of the territory as a starting point for territorial planning and agricultural production planning, but with a long-term scope. We identified about 90 alternatives, including plantain, cocoa, chiro, cattle farming, backyard poultry, and home gardens; but what we aim for is to select those that are strategic for the market and those we must promote to ensure the sovereignty and food security of the inhabitants."
"For 2023, UPRA progressed with the prioritization of agricultural and livestock productive alternatives for the 32 departments, and in 2024, we are committed to peasant reserve zones starting with La Perla Amazónica in Puerto Asís, Putumayo, and continuing with Montes de María 2, covering the municipalities of El Guamo, San Juan Nepomuceno, Zambrano, and Córdoba, in the department of Bolívar," concluded Andrea Ramírez, also an expert from UPRA.
