UPRA, in partnership with UN Women, conducts workshops on gender approach, rural women, and eradication of violence

Bogotá D.C., (@UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). An average of about 120 collaborators of UPRA participated virtually and in person in the two workshops conducted by UN Women, within the framework of the current alliance with UPRA. These workshops allowed technical teams to approach the gender approach, analyze rural women, and identify violence against women, with emphasis on the different types of violence with the purpose of achieving their eradication.
The first workshop addressed the definition of the gender approach and the analyses that have been carried out worldwide around this concept, especially regarding rural women, highlighting the need to close gaps between men and women if sustainable development of rural communities is to be achieved.
In the second session, the types of violence against women in different areas were presented, as well as the routes that must be activated to address this situation. It is expected that, by specifying the types of violence, the teams will be able to identify and report promptly to the corresponding protection mechanisms.
"These types of spaces allow, at the institutional level, the human talent of UPRA to have a vision of the field that includes the gender approach and the fundamental role that women play in the agricultural sector, in food production, and in the conservation of resources," said Adriana Pérez, technical advisor of UPRA.
Another conclusion drawn from these meetings is the commitment of UPRA and its human talent to identify and transform both cultural patterns and stereotypes of roles for men and women in order to contribute to incorporating equality of rights, the path to development, and the recognition of human diversity in the technical analyses it carries out.
These social transformations involve addressing deeply rooted cultural dynamics by orienting towards changing everyday behaviors of exclusion, discrimination, and violence into actions for inclusion, equality of rights, empathy, and development.
