UPRA conducted training for the calculation of Agricultural Family Units by Homogeneous Physical Units in Cundinamarca

UPRA realizó capacitación para el cálculo de Unidades Agrícolas Familiares por Unidades Físicas Homogéneas en Cundinamarca

This calculation carried out by the Planning and Agriculture Secretariats will enable the ordering of municipal plans for land titling and access to land.

Bogotá D.C., (@UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). The Planning and Agriculture Secretariats of the Department of Cundinamarca, in partnership with the Rural Agricultural Planning Unit (UPRA), held a training forum on Agricultural Family Units (UAF) and Agricultural Frontier in the region.

The main objective of the event was to share information from UPRA with Agriculture and Planning secretaries about the necessary tools to understand and apply the updated methodology for calculating Agricultural Family Units by Homogeneous Physical Units (UFH), a key concept in the territorial planning process.

The UAF, established in Law 160, goes beyond its role in the distribution of rural property in Colombia and aims to ensure that farmers have access to land and can receive fair compensation for their work and the products they cultivate.

"We carried out the training on the Agricultural Family Unit (UAF) and its impact on territorial planning. This is a parameter that arises from Law 160 which, beyond affecting the distribution of rural property in the country, aims for the peasant to access land and, moreover, to be able to receive compensation for it and for what they produce," explained the official from the UPRA Property and Land Market Planning Directorate.

The methodology for calculating UAF by UFH allows:

  1. Determining the optimal size of family agricultural production units.

  2. Considering the specific characteristics of each region, such as soil type, climate, and predominant crops.

  3. Ensuring the economic sustainability of peasant families.

  4. Facilitating decision-making regarding rural territorial planning.

The UPRA official emphasized that the training provided to departmental secretaries' officials represents a significant step towards more efficient and equitable territorial planning in Cundinamarca.

With the application of this methodology, it is expected to:

  1. Improve the distribution of rural property.

  2. Promote sustainable agricultural development.

  3. Strengthen the economy of peasant families.

  4. Optimize the use of natural resources.
