The Richness of Diversity: Farmers with Dual Ethnic Identity

The dual ethnic identity among Colombian farmers is a living testament to the richness and complexity of our cultural heritage.
Bogotá D. C., (@Minagricultura, @UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). As part of the execution of the Sectoral Statistical Plan, the Agricultural Statistics Table held the event ‘Rights of the Peasantry in Colombia and Latin America,’ with Carlos Duarte, professor at the Universidad Javeriana and expert in the rights of the peasantry in Colombia and Latin America.
Ethnic diversity in Colombia was a key topic; a treasure that enriches national identity and, among Colombian farmers, manifests itself through dual ethnic identity. These individuals, rooted in the traditions and customs of their peasant communities, also maintain deep connections with their indigenous or Afro-descendant ethnic roots, thus forming a rich and complex identity that reflects the country's cultural diversity.
"The dual ethnic identity among Colombian farmers is a living testament to the richness and complexity of our cultural heritage," emphasized Professor Carlos Duarte. He explained, "these individuals act as true cultural mediators, promoting intercultural dialogue and strengthening solidarity ties in rural communities."
From an economic and social perspective, dual ethnic diversity can also drive sustainable development in Colombia's rural communities. By integrating ancestral knowledge and practices with new forms of agriculture and production, farmers with dual ethnic identity can generate innovation and resilience in the face of contemporary challenges, such as climate change and economic globalization.
"The dual ethnic identity among Colombian farmers is a unique opportunity to promote inclusive and sustainable development models in our rural areas," Duarte stressed, concluding, "it is essential to recognize and value this diversity as an asset that strengthens national identity and contributes to building a more just and equitable society for all."
At a time when inclusion and diversity are fundamental values for building a more just and equitable society, we celebrate the contribution of Colombian farmers with dual ethnic identity; we recognize their vital role in promoting cultural diversity and in building a more united and prosperous country for all.
