
In March 2024, 564,815 tons of food were delivered to the main wholesale markets

By food groups, there was an increase in the supply of fish (25.5%), grains and cereals (16.3%), and processed foods (10.6%).
Compared to the same month of the previous year, in 2024, the supply increased in: Sincelejo (25.1%), Tibasosa (19.3%), Tunja (15.1%), Montería (14.8%), Medellín (12.6%).

In March 2024, the main wholesale markets in the country recorded a total input of 564,815 tons of food; this figure represents a decrease of 1.2%, compared to the same month of the previous year. This is specified in the supply bulletin of agricultural and food security products delivered by the Rural Agricultural Planning Unit (UPRA).
By food groups, there was an increase in the supply of fish (25.5%), grains and cereals (16.3%), and processed foods (10.6%). However, there were decreases in the supply of dairy and eggs (-10.8%), meats (-10.6%), vegetables (-6.2%), fruits (-2.4%), and tubers, roots, and bananas (-1.0%).
Regarding supply by cities, the largest positive variations were observed in Sincelejo (25.1%), Tibasosa (19.3%), Tunja (15.1%), Montería (14.8%), and Medellín (12.6%). On the other hand, the cities that experienced the greatest reductions were Florencia (-35.8%), Pasto (-24.3%), Neiva (-18.4%), and Ibagué (-15.5%).
Details by food category:
Fruits: In March 2024, 130,488 tons of fruits were delivered to wholesale markets in the country. There was an increase in the supply of watermelon (35.0%), lemon (23.1%), banana (16.9%), tree tomato (16.5%), papaya (11.4%), and naranjilla (3.8%). Decreases were recorded in pineapple (-25.9%), passion fruit (-23.7%), avocado (-20.6%), and other fruits.
Tubers, roots, and bananas: 165,716 tons were delivered in March 2024, with an increase in the supply of banana (26.0%), arracacha (19.4%), and yuca (3.8%). There was a decrease in ginger (-21.7%), other tubers and roots (-9.7%), and potato (-9.3%).
Vegetables: 156,683 tons were reported, with increases in beetroot (16.3%), garlic (13.0%), cucumber (10.5%), and bell pepper (4.9%). The largest reductions were in corn (-27.5%), cabbage (-17.3%), and tomato (-11.3%).
