Land Adjustment in Colombia: Valuing Water as a Source of Life

La adecuación de tierras en Colombia: valoramos el agua como fuente de vida
UPRA will participate in the academic agenda and will have a booth at the National Land Adjustment Congress, which will take place from April 25th to 27th in Duitama (Boyacá).

We will present the technical publication "Guide for the Structuring of Land Adjustment Infrastructure Projects (ADT) in Colombia" during the ongoing participatory accountability exercise.

Colombia has 18.4 million hectares suitable for land adjustment, but only 6% have access to this service.

Duitama, Boyacá. (@UpraColombia @Claudialli76 @alexander_rodr_). One of the great challenges we take on in the Government of Change, regarding land adjustment in Colombia, is to expand the coverage of areas with agricultural suitability that have irrigation, drainage, and flood protection services. Our commitment is to organize the territory around water, ensure that land fulfills its social function, and guarantee sovereignty and food security.

"We will present, at the National Land Adjustment Congress, taking place from April 25th to 27th at the Chamber of Commerce in Duitama, Boyacá, the technical instruments that we have jointly designed with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Rural Development Agency in terms of land adjustment, irrigation, drainage, technologies, public-private partnerships, land management, and efficient water and soil use", said UPRA Director Claudia Cortés López.

Colombia has 18.4 million hectares suitable for land adjustment, but only 6% of that territory has access to such service. Our commitment to the rural population is to:
  • Increase the area with planned irrigation.
  • Ensure the social, economic, and financial sustainability of agricultural projects associated with investment in irrigation.
  • Optimize resource use.
  • Promote efficient water and soil use.

"The Congress allows us to approach the territories and carry out a continuous accountability session through the academic agenda, on April 25th at 11:00 a.m., with the presentation of Food Protection Areas (APPA); and at 11:40 a.m., in the Integrated Management Panel of land adjustment districts. On Friday the 26th, at 10:20 a.m., we will be reflecting on land management and agricultural production," stated Alexander Rodríguez Romero, Technical Director of Soil Efficient Use and Land Adjustment at UPRA.

Likewise, UPRA will have a booth where attendees can get a close look at the tools and instruments available to the Colombian countryside for rural agricultural planning.

During the Congress, the Guide for the Structuring of Land Adjustment Infrastructure Projects in Colombia will also be shared; a tool that encourages the development of ADT as an instrument of agricultural productivity and competitiveness by engaging private capital through Public-Private Partnerships: https://upra.gov.co/es-co/Publicaciones/guia_estructucturacion_proyectos_adt_app.pdf
