Mosquera, Cundinamarca, (@MinAgricultura). – Led by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jhenifer Mojica, with the presence of departmental agriculture secretaries and agricultural entities, including technical directors from UPRA, the Agricultural Unified Command Post (PMU) for the El Niño phenomenon was activated on Thursday.

During this event, current topics of great relevance, such as the impacts on crops and animals caused by the country's current weather conditions, were addressed. In this regard, departmental entities are working with agricultural institutions to anticipate, mitigate, and respond to the adverse effects of this season of drought, high temperatures, fires, and frosts.

"The call is for us to generate coordination between the Nation and the territories, at the departmental and municipal levels, not only to report impacts, damages, and losses but also to monitor the cost, food prices, to prevent speculation, and the risks of shortages. Today, I can tell Colombian society with confidence that there are no effects so far from the El Niño phenomenon on food prices", emphasized Minister Mojica.

Likewise, the leader of the agricultural sector expressed: "With UPRA, we make available the website where the Governors report the impacts in their territories, information that is systematized and will be the basis for making decisions that benefit the producers affected by this emergency".

On the other hand, the acting director of UPRA, Dora Inés Rey Martínez, explained:

"This PMU was also the space to socialize and invite the departmental agriculture secretaries to use the Territorial Kit developed by UPRA as a fundamental tool for formulating Development Plans. The kit is a set of guidelines that allows the new leaders to make informed decisions and ensure proper management of the territory in line with the objectives and transformation lines proposed within the National Development Plan 2022-2026 'Colombia, a World Power of Life".

"To this territorial kit, the technical support in the region that UPRA will carry out during 2024 is added. We will be in the territories, addressing topics such as agricultural sector guidelines, social ordering of property, cross-cutting approaches, territorial and productive ordering, efficient use of land and water, among others", said Alexander Rodríguez, Technical Director of Efficient Land Use and Land Adjustment at UPRA.

Finally, UPRA's Head of ICT, Luz Mery Gómez, announced: "With this daily monitoring and analysis of the data on the impacts reported by the departments on crops and animals, and based on information provided by IDEAM and UPRA, we can build reports on vulnerability due to water deficit and frosts, which form the basis of strategic decisions made by the Ministry and Governors to benefit and protect the country's producers and farmers.
