UPRA is working on identifying APPAs in municipalities of Sabana Centro

Nemocón, Sopó, Tocancipá, Zipaquirá, Tabio, and Tenjo are some of the municipalities where the advances and processes regarding the identification of the APPAs are being socialized.
Bogotá, D. C., (@UPRAColombia). The identification of Areas for Food Production Protection (APPA) is being carried out in 10 municipalities that are part of Sabana Centro in Bogotá, specifically in Nemocón, Sopó, Tocancipá, Zipaquirá, Tabio, Tenjo, Cajicá, Chía, Cota, and Gachancipá.
Dora Inés Rey Martínez, acting director of the Agricultural Rural Planning Unit (UPRA), stated: "We have several fronts of work open. In total, there are 102 municipalities nationwide, across various departments; one of these fronts is in the Sabana Centro province of Bogotá."
In the municipalities of Sabana Centro, the identification process began at the end of 2023, with a series of meetings with some local governments and public outreach sessions with the community, aimed at protecting rural soil and guaranteeing the human right to adequate food.
It is worth recalling that the APPAs are rural areas located within the agricultural frontier that meet favorable conditions for food production. Given their priority status for the State, it is essential to protect them, as they play a significant role in ensuring the human right to food.
In addition to contributing to the protection of this human right, APPAs promote the efficient use of rural agricultural land and water resources, protect and prevent the loss of land for food production, ensure the permanent availability of adequate, nutritious, and culturally accepted food, and promote rural development to guarantee the human right to food.
The expectation is that, during 2024, new APPAs will be identified and declared in national territories, including departments such as Tolima, Antioquia, and Córdoba, among others.
