UPRA will present the process of identifying APPA in 21 municipalities of Córdoba

The presentations will take place between September 16th and 21st, 2024.

Bogotá, D. C., (@UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). With the purpose of guaranteeing the human right to adequate food in Córdoba and throughout the country, UPRA will present the process of identifying Food Production Protection Areas (APPA) in 21 municipalities of the department between September 16th and 21st of this year.

The presentations will be conducted by four technical teams from UPRA and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MinAgricultura). Each team will hold two sessions per day in each municipality: one with local government officials and another with the community.

  • The first team will be in the municipalities of Montería, Cereté, San Pelayo, Cotorra, and Lorica.
  • The second team will visit Buenavista, La Apartada, Ayapel, Montelíbano, and Planeta Rica.
  • The third team will visit San Carlos, Ciénaga de Oro, Pueblo Nuevo, Sahagún, Chimá, and Purísima.
  • The fourth team will be in San Antero, Momil, Tuchín, San Andrés de Sotavento, and Chinú.

It is important to note that during these presentations, there will be explanations on what the APPA are, their objectives, and detailed information specific to each municipality.

APPA are rural areas located within the agricultural frontier that have favorable conditions for food production. Given their priority status for the State, it is crucial to protect them, as they play a significant role in ensuring the human right to food.

Their primary objective is to protect the human right to food. They also promote the efficient use of rural agricultural land and water resources, protect and prevent the loss of soils for food production, ensure the permanent availability of adequate, nutritious, and culturally accepted food, and promote rural development to guarantee the human right to food.
