Bogotá D. C., (@UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). On Wednesday, May 29th, starting at 8:00 a.m., the Agricultural and Rural Planning Unit (UPRA) and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy will hold a virtual event called 'Property Tax in Latin America: Expert Meeting', in which different experts will share their vision and experience from their respective countries regarding unified property tax.
The event will feature experts from Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Peru, Mexico, among others. Notable participants include Anaclaudia Rossbach, Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy; Claudia de Cesare; Saúl Barrera from Peru; Vanessa Rodríguez from Ecuador; Marcela Román from Costa Rica; Catalina Molinatti from Argentina; and Salvador Gómez from Mexico.
It is important to highlight that unified property tax is a key topic of discussion in the agricultural sector, as there are different municipalities where rural tax collection is low, despite having more than 60% of their area within the Agricultural Frontier, reflecting the need to strengthen the management capacities of these territorial entities.
Furthermore, only 63 municipalities in the country have updated rural cadastres for the year 2020.
These issues and more will be addressed during the 'Property Tax in Latin America: Expert Meeting' event.
