Bogotá D. C. (@Minagricultura, @UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). The Unit for Rural Agricultural Planning (UPRA) announces the return of the Pioneers Camp, a program designed to support teams from entities affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MinAgricultura) in the search for innovative and technological solutions to complex problems that require creative approaches.

"This program seeks to energize and enhance the technological development of the agricultural sector through spaces that foster creative thinking. As part of the Pioneers program, participants will receive training and support from experts in areas such as data science, UX, UI, user-centered design, creative problem-solving, and prototyping—key knowledge for structuring comprehensive, user-centered solutions," explained Luz Mery Gómez, head of UPRA's ICT office.

The program lasts six weeks, with two sessions held in person and four virtually. Applicants must be available for one hour every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Requirements:

  • Be part of an entity affiliated or linked to MinAgricultura (employees or contractors, and have an institutional email).
  • Have a team of at least 3 and no more than 5 members.
  • Present a challenge that requires design and innovation for its solution.
  • Registration is done through a form.Enter HERE.

As part of the 2023 Pioneers Camp, the Colombian Agricultural Research Corporation (Agrosavia) designed an alternative to accelerate information retrieval within the organization. The result is the platform "Yo Campo", which, based on Artificial Intelligence, organizes information so that users can consult their questions through a chat using everyday agricultural language. The tool, aimed at extensionists and technical assistants in the sector, is in the development phase and will soon be available to the community.

"Yo Campo" is an example of an idea born from the Pioneers Camp, which Agrosavia has been nurturing to achieve its development and implementation. This and other projects from previous camps that have materialized, such as the Collaborative Network for Agricultural Infrastructure (RECIA) and the Alternative Tool for Efficient Request Processing, demonstrate the impact of the Pioneers program.
