Boyacá strengthens its position in the agricultural sector with key distribution routes in Sogamoso

Boyacá strengthens its position in the agricultural sector with key distribution routes in Sogamoso

In the first half of August, Sogamoso saw a significant increase in the supply of vegetables and potatoes.
In this municipality, the price of pastusa brown potatoes dropped by 19.39%, reflecting the regional supply and demand trends.

Bogotá D. C., (@Minagricultura, @UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). The Unit for Rural Agricultural Planning (UPRA) has released its latest First Market Price Bulletin (PPM), highlighting Sogamoso’s crucial role as an agricultural hub and its influence on regional distribution. This price collection exercise provides detailed insights into the revenue behavior of producers and its impact on consumer prices in urban areas.

“Sogamoso has established itself as a key point in the distribution of agricultural products, not only for Boyacá but for the entire country. Thanks to its strategic location and diverse offerings, this municipality has become a driving force in ensuring food security in regions dependent on its production. At UPRA, we are committed to providing reliable information to optimize the agricultural value chain and strengthen the sector's sustainability,” said Claudia Cortés, UPRA director.

Sogamoso: A Strategic Agricultural Node

Sogamoso, known for its rich agricultural production, including potatoes, peas, beans, plantains, and cassava, is one of Boyacá’s main supply centers. In addition to its local production, Sogamoso receives products from nearby municipalities such as Pasca, Tota, Aquitania, and Monguí, allowing it to maintain a constant and diversified supply. This connection with different regions ensures a continuous flow of products to other municipalities, including Yopal, Aguazul, and Tame, contributing to food security in both local and distant areas.

Increase in Potato and Vegetable Supply in August

In the first half of August, there was a notable increase in the supply of vegetables and potatoes in Sogamoso, with a reduction in the prices of green peas in pods and green cargamanto beans. This trend is attributed to the increased harvesting in Cundinamarca and Boyacá, as well as the rise in rainfall in the producing areas.

Price Trends in Key Products

The report highlights a decrease in prices for products such as pastusa brown potatoes and green beans in key markets, while other products, like white onion and tomatoes, saw price increases. For instance, in Sogamoso, the price of pastusa brown potatoes fell by 19.39%, reflecting regional supply and demand trends.

Impact on the Agricultural Value Chain

The PPM Bulletin not only offers a view of price behavior in the first market but also allows for an evaluation of how these changes impact local producers’ income and the agricultural value chain overall. UPRA continues to collect and analyze data to support informed decision-making in the agricultural sector.
