In August, prices for vegetables, tubers, eggs, and artisan cheeses dropped

Price decreases of more than 20% were recorded for key products such as white and red bulb onions, bell peppers, green peas in pods, and green beans in pods.
Additionally, a 10% drop in the prices of all black potato varieties was observed, following months of sustained increases.
Bogotá D. C., (@Minagricultura, @UPRAColombia, @dorairey). In August, wholesale prices for agricultural products fluctuated in the country’s main wholesale markets. The Wholesale Prices Bulletin for Agricultural Products, published by the Agricultural Rural Planning Unit (UPRA), revealed a trend of significant price decreases for various products, while others showed notable increases. Key highlights include:
- Price drops of over 20% for essential products like white and red bulb onions, bell peppers, green peas in pods, and green beans in pods.
- A 10% decrease in prices for all varieties of black potatoes, which had experienced sustained increases in previous months.
- Price increases for fresh fruits such as mangoes, avocados, Tahiti limes, tangerines, grapes, papayas, and pineapples, with rises of over 10% in several cases.
- Lower consumer prices for pork, artisan cheeses, and all varieties of eggs.
- Slight price increases (below 3%) for beef and chicken, with the price of whole fresh chicken (gutted) rising by 1%.
These variations are explained by an increased supply due to harvests in regions such as Norte de Santander, Huila, and Antioquia, as well as climatic factors impacting fresh food production.
"The data presented this month highlights the importance of monitoring wholesale markets to understand the dynamics affecting the pockets of Colombian households. At UPRA, we continue working to provide timely information that helps both producers and consumers make strategic decisions and adapt to fluctuations in the agricultural market," said Dora Inés Rey, director of UPRA.
In the vegetable and tuber categories, the prices of essential products such as carrots, green beans, and corn cobs saw notable declines. However, the prices of other products, such as cucumbers, beets, and green onions, increased. As for tubers, most varieties of black potatoes, yams, and Hartón plantains experienced price decreases.
On the other hand, in fresh fruits, price increases were observed for products like mangoes and avocados, while prices dropped for others, such as blackberries, tree tomatoes, and lulos.
