In April, Agricultural and Agro-industrial Sector Imports Reached 855 MUSD CIF

Between January and April 2024, imports totaled 3,126 MUSD CIF, showing a reduction of 9.1%.​

During the last 12 months (May 2023 to April 2024), the value of imports decreased by 15.3% compared to the same period the previous year. 
 
Bogotá D. C., (@Minagricultura, @UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). In April 2024, imports reached 855 MUSD CIF, showing a decrease of 1.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. The main products contributing to this reduction were: soybean meal, a decrease of 72.1 MUSD (-53.9%); corn, a decrease of 46.2 MUSD (-24.8%); and soybeans, a decrease of 11.4 MUSD (-34.8%). 
 
 
Between January and April 2024, imports totaled 3,126 MUSD CIF, showing a reduction of 9.1% compared to the same period the previous year. The main reductions in this period were: 
 
Corn: a reduction of 182.3 MUSD (-25.2%). 
Soybean meal: a reduction of 96.4 MUSD (-26.2%). 
Coffee: a reduction of 45.4 MUSD (-46.4%). 
 
"These results reflect a positive trend in our agricultural foreign trade, with a notable recovery in the trade surplus and optimization in the importation of key products. We will continue working to strengthen the sector's competitiveness and ensure its long-term sustainability," explained Claudia Cortés, director of the Unit for Rural Agricultural Planning (UPRA). 

The volume of imports in April 2024 was 1,414,302 tons, registering an increase of 10% compared to the same month in 2023. This increase was mainly due to rice, which increased by 48,481 tons (4,403.6%); corn, 38,247 tons (6.8% increase); and wheat, which grew by 35,209 tons (26.9%). 

Between January and April 2024, imports reached a volume of 5,169,529 tons, an increase of 4.1% compared to the same period the previous year. The main increases in this period were: corn, ethyl alcohol, and wheat. 
 

During the last 12 months (May 2023 to April 2024), the volume of imports decreased by 4% compared to the same period the previous year. ​

Trade Balance, April 2024​​ ​​

In the period from January to April 2024, the trade balance, in value, showed a surplus of 734 MUSD FOB; a figure that represents an increase of 307.9% compared to the same period in 2023. 

In terms of volume, the trade balance showed a negative balance of 3.23 million tons, a deficit 5.6% lower than that recorded in the same period the previous year.
