The Alexander von Humboldt Institute and UPRA Sign Memorandum to Boost Sustainable Development in the Agricultural and Environmental Sectors

UPRA and IAVH sign a memorandum of understanding to develop joint actions aimed at strengthening rural agricultural planning.
Bogotá D. C., (@Minagricultura, @UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). The Unidad de Planificación Rural Agropecuaria (UPRA) and the Alexander von Humboldt Institute (IAvH) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop joint actions aimed at strengthening rural agricultural planning in harmony with nature, biodiversity, and the environment.
Hernando García, director of IAvH, expressed his joy at the opportunities this agreement creates: “We are here today at UPRA, celebrating an agreement, uniting the scientific and technical forces of two key institutions in two sectors (environmental and agricultural) that are increasingly motivated to think and discuss the environmental challenges of a single country. We celebrate this space! We will work together within the national environmental system represented by the Humboldt Institute and the agricultural sector represented by UPRA.”
In turn, Claudia Cortés, director of UPRA, commented: “We have signed a memorandum of understanding between IAvH and UPRA so that all planning methodologies and understandings related to the agricultural frontier, strategic systems, and everything we must conserve are part of our rural sector planning. Let’s stop thinking of the rural sector exclusively as food provision; the rural sector is also social fabric and biodiversity construction.”
The Memorandum of Understanding includes the following areas of collaboration:
- Territorial planning aimed at strengthening and harmonizing the coexistence and purposes of the policies of the environmental and agricultural sectors.
- Joint analysis and application of sustainable biodiversity use criteria for agricultural production, within and beyond the agricultural frontier.
- Conceptual and methodological articulation in the development of projects and initiatives on processes of restoration, recovery, revaluation, rehabilitation, and conversion of ecosystems and landscapes affected by human action.
- Methodological strengthening in the analysis, guidelines, and instruments on policies of the environmental and agricultural sectors.
- Exchange of available information on biodiversity and agricultural uses of the territory, generating value for decision-making in each sector.
General Provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding:
Starting 60 working days after the memorandum is signed, the agreement will have an operational work plan that materializes one or more areas of collaboration.
