Bogotá D. C., (@Minagricultura, @UPRAColombia, @claudialili76). In April 2024, the exports of Colombia's agricultural and agro-industrial sector reached a value of USD 947 million, reflecting a 22.9% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. This notable growth is primarily due to the increase in exports of bananas, coffee, and flowers.
Banana exports showed a significant increase of USD 66.6 million, representing a growth of 100.3%. Coffee exports increased by USD 48 million (22.7%), while flower exports grew by USD 32.2 million (22.4%). In terms of volume, in April 2024, Colombia exported 549,775 tons of agricultural and agro-industrial products, a 38% increase compared to April 2023. This growth was driven by the increase in banana exports (120,819 tons, 93.8%), coffee (15,622 tons, 39.2%), and other sugars and syrups (9,463 tons).
Claudia Cortés, director of the Rural Agricultural Planning Unit (UPRA), stated: "The increase in exports of key products like bananas, coffee, and flowers demonstrates the strength and potential of the Colombian agricultural sector. We are committed to continuing to support our producers to maintain this positive trend and explore new opportunities in international markets."
Between January and April 2024, the sector exported a total of USD 3.634 billion, an 8.5% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. This positive performance is mainly attributed to the increase in banana exports (USD 199.2 million, 88.4%), flowers (USD 78.2 million, 10.7%), and cocoa and its preparations (USD 40.2 million, 113.9%).
During the first four months of 2024, 1,942,689 tons of products were exported, representing a 25.8% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. This increase is mainly due to banana exports (382,408 tons, 90.6%), coffee (20,618 tons, 10.7%), and Tahiti lime (13,285 tons, 74.4%).
"These results reflect the dynamism and resilience of the Colombian agricultural sector, highlighting its ability to adapt and grow in a competitive global environment. We will continue working in collaboration with our farmers and exporters to ensure this trend of sustainable growth continues," concluded Cortés.
