Forest Chain Productive Management Plan
The productive chain of commercial forest plantations for timber production generates significant benefits to society. Perhaps the most recognized examples are the various forms of wood (boards, paper, and wooden furniture used daily), employment opportunities for thousands of people, wealth creation, and the ecosystem service of carbon capture. Expanding the benefits generated by the chain and making them sustainable was the goal that motivated the stakeholders of the chain, under the leadership of UPRA, to come together in 2016 to formulate policy guidelines for commercial forest plantations for timber production and their productive chain, which are now being published. The guidelines include the roadmap for 2016-2038 to achieve this purpose. To establish the path towards 2038, the guidelines build upon the achievements of previous policies and are consistent with the purposes, programs, and goals of current policies such as the National Forest Development Plan, with its new focus on economic development, green growth, and the recently adopted policy for productive and social planning of rural property in Colombia.
